New Fire Station submitted for Planning

Niven Architects are pleased to have submitted a Planning Application for the new primary fire station in Darlington, for County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service.

Following a completion of a Feasibility Study in May and the recommendation to rebuild rather than refurbish, we have developed a sustainable and attractive architectural solution which will retain the Fire Station as an integral part of the town centre and the local community.

The building is designed around modern fire service requirements, and includes accommodation for both the North East Ambulance Service and Young Firefighters, as well as potential community use.

The external appearance of the proposal reflects the architectural character of Darlington with brick being the primary material and used in conjunction with modern, crisp detailing and a visual rhythm that echoes the structure and accommodation within.

As the new station has been designed more efficiently on the large plot, an area to the rear of the site at Park Place has been allocated for housing. Outline Approval for this has been submitted as part of the main Planning Application.
