Best of Darlington Awards 201823 May 2018 | Written by Karen Crowe
Teesside University very kindly invited us to join them last week at the ‘Best of Darlington Awards’. Now in its 12th year, the Awards are an annual celebration of the hard work and achievement of individuals and businesses across Darlington. Local people, and businesses can nominate someone who they feel deserves special recognition: the local ‘unsung heroes’ who spend a large chunk of their time selflessly helping others.
The evening was a genuinely uplifting one. Celebrating people who selflessly improve others’ lives by volunteering their time, knowledge, energy and empathy. Like many towns, in recent years Darlington has suffered from considerable cuts to local services. It would seem that, in spite of this, Darlington still managed to achieve the highest ranking from within the North East for ‘Health, wellbeing & happiness’ in the recent ‘Vibrant Cities’ report by Grant Thornton.
We’re sure at least some of this success will have been due, in no small measure, to all the hard work and efforts of people we helped to celebrate on Friday.
