Niven design multifunctional theatre for CCAD26 Feb 2018 | Written by Karen Crowe
Niven recently completed a project for Cleveland College of Art & Design (CCAD): our brief was to convert two existing spaces into a multifunctional lecture theatre space also capable of staging live theatre and cinema performances. Originally, a lecture theatre, the College added a mezzanine structure later to create two floors of studio spaces. Niven dismantled this before stripping the space back to the original shell. The installation of a new mezzanine level platform took place together with bespoke raked seating for 130 people. A full refurbishment was then undertaken which included M & E and the latest acoustic and performance equipment. We also converted a former workshop at the rear of the space to provide a gallery/control room.
