By 2010, Beaumont House had fallen into such disrepair that it became earmarked for demolition. Despite its state, Tompkins UK purchased the building and commissioned Niven to undertake extensive remodelling and refurbishment to provide offices for their sub-sea engineering, technology and investment business.
Inevitably, after years of decay, the building required extensive work both inside and out. The 1960’s exterior required significant updating: external tapered concrete fins were added to both the staircase glazing and the entrance area to enhance and improve the look of the building. In addition, a mixture of open plan space, individual offices and some conference facilities were developed by reconfiguring the layout. The potential for a 4th storey was incorporated into the design to provide additional space, should it be required in the future.
A lift was also added to improve accessibility to the building.
