Niven Architects - Claremont House.jpg

Niven were approached by Darlington Homes to renovate and sympathetically convert the Victorian building of Claremont into 22 no 1, 2 and 3-bedroom luxury apartments.

The former Girl’s High School building presented a number of challenges; primarily, that of providing apartments to meet with the requirements of modern living whilst being sympathetic to the existing building’s fabric and character. The key one was of creating a development that would achieve a high build standard, using traditional methods of construction, whilst ensuring the development remained in keeping with the surrounding area.

In addition to the conversion of the Victorian school house, a new build block of twelve 2-bedroom apartment was constructed in the grounds and was designed to complement, and not detract from, the original Victorian building.

Every apartment, in both buildings, was designed to the highest specification. The primary aim being to supply a luxurious development offering spacious and attractive living accommodation in one of the most sought after locations in Darlington
