The St Lawrence Academy project involved the design of two new teaching wings providing a range of teaching space, a new canteen and Learning Resource Centre.
The challenge with this project was to maintain undisturbed teaching whilst the whole school was re-accommodated in a mix of new and re-furbished buildings. The design, therefore, needed to enable each department to move independently into new locations where all services and adjacencies were maintained to achieve continuity of the curriculum.
Role: Design Team Leader
Prior to construction, careful planning was achieved by Niven managed user group meetings, which ensured a comprehensive appreciation of the teaching requirements throughout the build.. This enabled both the agreed design and the construction methods to be integrated to minimise disruption to both staff and students.
